Goztepe may have an edge if they recruit Southampton’s Onuachu. Discussions continue.

Goztepe is now vying for Onuachu before making a comeback to the Turkish first division.
Southampton is trying to get rid of Onuachu, and Goztepe might be a fit because of the ownership connection.
This summer, Goztepe is interested in signing Southampton’s Paul Onuachu, a striker.

As per a report by the Turkish publication NTV Spor, the club feels that they could have an edge in reaching an agreement with the Saints.

Onuachu signed with Southampton in January 2023, but the club’s relegation from the Premier League to the Championship prevented him from having any effect at St Mary’s, and he was loaned out the following summer.

The striker moved as a result, joining Trabzonspor on loan till the end of the current campaign in Turkey.

Following that transfer, the 29-year-old has made 20 appearances for the team across all competitions, tallying 12 goals and dishing out four assists.

As of late, reports have surfaced indicating Southampton is eager to sell, and while Trabzonspor wants to keep Onuachu, they would prefer a different loan arrangement.

It appears that another Turkish team may seek to pursue the Nigerian international on their own.

Desiring Paul Onuachu, Goztepe
According to the most recent information, Goztepe has entered the competition to sign Onuachu this summer from the Saints.

The Southampton player is reportedly being targeted by the club, who recently won promotion back to the Turkish top division. They want to establish themselves during the transfer window before moving up to that level.

It’s also said that because Goztepe and Southampton are both owned by Sport Republic, they might believe they have an advantage over the other in the race to sign Onuachu.

Onuachu’s contract with the Saints still has two years left, so they should be able to pounce on any interest in him.

Southampton will undoubtedly have a chance to advance to the Premier League through the play-offs this season since they are slated to finish fourth in the Championship.

In the semi-finals, they will face either Norwich City, West Brom, or Hull City, based on the outcomes of those three teams’ last-saturday regular season games.

At Elland Road, where the Saints’ own regular season comes to a conclusion, Leeds United will be looking to take advantage of any mistakes made by Ipswich Town in order to secure the second automatic promotion slot.

When the market opens this summer, it appears that Southampton is eager to get the striker off their roster.
