Manchester United ‘identify’ first signing under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and more transfer rumours

The latest transfer rumours from Old Trafford amid speculation over Miguel Gutierrez and Victor Lindelof

Manchester United are considering a move for Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez this summer. That’s according to reports from Give Me Sport amid intense speculation over the highly-rated Spaniard.

Interest from the Premier League is said to be rife in Gutierrez, 22, following a breakthrough campaign in which he has made 30 appearances for the plucky La Liga contenders. Girona have defied the odds this season and are likely to finish third after challenging El Classico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona at the summit of the Spanish top tier.

Gutierrez has grabbed one goal, with six assists coming from left-back. The Manchester Evening News understands United are keen to strengthen in that same position when the market reopens after being made to cope without England regular Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for much of this term.

After investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS Group was finalised, United moved quickly to make changes at boardroom level and are currently putting the final touches to their transfer structure in place. Gutierrez is named as a potential signing – possibly the first under Ratcliffe – but United will encounter competition.

Give Me Sport namedrop Arsenal and West Ham as would-be suitors in the same article. Gutierrez remains under contract with Girona until 2027 having joined the club from Real two years ago.

Elsewhere, reports from Turkish publication A Spor state Victor Lindelof has been identified as a prime defensive target for Galatasaray this summer. Lindelof, 29, joined United from Benfica in 2017, and has 12 months on his deal.

United are expected to strengthen at centre-back when the market reopens and Lindelof could be one man who finds himself surplus to requirements in order to try and generate funds for their recruitment drive. A potential fee around £15-20million has been outlined for the Sweden captain with Galatasaray keen on his signature.

Lindelof has made 27 appearances for United this season. He’s currently out injured.
