Perhaps the writing was on the wall, with Oseary leaving Live Nation and getting more involved with tech (NFTs) and other clients (Red Hot Chili Peppers) over his engagement with U2. As was said, it looks tied to the Vegas residency (which U2 haven’t made comments on at all) with the Azoff people heavily involved in making that happen. Maybe that stirred things up behind beyond repair?

I don’t want to be harsh because I don’t know anything about their relationship or plans but in the end, this news signals that something simply was not right.

Also, I’ve had the impression that Oseary isn’t a hands-on kind of manager the way U2 might need. We know Paul McGuinness stepped back because he couldn’t do the everyday of it anymore.

This is big news, especially as the lads are preparing another album/tour cycle right now. It wasn’t long ago that Bono spoke about trustworthiness with regards to Oseary. Also, they all attended Oseary’s wedding (the image featured by Variety, in fact) so they must’ve been on really good terms for that?

“Trustworthiness is an old-school term, and whilst the manager-client relationship does not require a Hippocratic oath, Guy O. takes this very seriously,” U2’s Bono tells Variety. “That’s one of the reasons we work so well together. He is a most trustworthy person. In the early days, the temperature could get raised as we would debate different aspects of how we go about our business. But in recent times, not so much. He feels like family.”

I hope this will steer U2 clear from NFTs but I won’t speculate beyond that. Yes, there seems to have been a heated relationship at times but I didn’t expect this headline this morning. Let’s see what more details emerge on this…
