This offseason for the Buffalo Bills was one of notable change. After another playoff exit at the hands of Patrick Mahomes, change was needed, and the Bills got it.
Both sides of the ball saw big-name players move on. With Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Mitch Morse, Jordan Poyer, Leonard Floyd, Tre’Davious White, and Micah Hype headlining the departures, the Bills roster will look different in 2024.
But that doesn’t mean worse, it just means different, and the Bills have made several moves to counter the players who have left and they feel good about the decisions made.
Perhaps the biggest eyebrow-raiser of any of those moves was Diggs’ trade to the Houston Texans. While the move had been bubbling under the surface for a while, it did shock the system when it went through.
As such, CBS Sports has listed Diggs’ departure from Buffalo as the franchise’s most notable move this offseason.
“The Buffalo Bills wide receiver room was overhauled this offseason,” CBS Sports writes. “While Gabe Davis left in free agency, the stunner came at the beginning of April when the team traded All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs (and minor draft capital) to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. In the four seasons Diggs spent in Buffalo, he was their most targeted pass catcher, averaging 161 targets per season.”
In his four years in Buffalo, Diggs had been the No. 1 receiver, and it’s not even close, having over 150+ targets and 100+ receptions in each season.
But things with Josh Allen didn’t seem right and Diggs himself admitted that a move this offseason was a thought he had during the 2023.
“I kind of felt that it was going that direction throughout the season,” Diggs said. “I had some ups and downs … Kinda felt it in the air a little bit.”
With the Bills’ receiver room now missing the No. 1 & No.2 players for yards and touchdowns, their production will need to be replaced and in Diggs’ case, considering his impact on the roster, that might not be achievable.
And as such, it’s easy to see why he’s Buffalo’s most notable offseason departure.
