Good News For Collingwood: He is Back…

Boyd returns to Collingwood

Collingwood welcomes back Matthew Boyd who has accepted a position as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Boyd returns to the Pies with a strong history in the game as a player and more recently as a coach.

Boyd, who played 292 games with the Western Bulldogs and is a 2016 premiership player, transitioned to coaching in 2018 as a Development Coach for Collingwood. In 2020 he was promoted to an Assistant Coach role overseeing the program’s defence.

The 42-year-old spent two seasons with the Club before moving to Perth to take up the backline assistant coaching role at Fremantle.

Collingwood GM of Football Brendon Bolton welcomed Boyd to the Club.

“We welcome Matthew and his family back to our Club,” Bolton said.

“Matthew started his coaching career with Collingwood and has since gone on to further develop himself under Justin Longmuir at Fremantle.

“He has experienced great success as a player and has spent six years as a highly regarded assistant coach.

“We are really pleased to have Matthew join our program and we extend that welcome to his wife Kate and their three children.”

Boyd will arrive at the Club when the AFL program returns for pre-season training in November.
