It’s very safe to say that the incoming freshman class are going to add some extra heat to the already historic North Carolina vs. Duke rivalry!
During the McDonald’s All-American festivities, the UNC basketball program’s participants, Ian Jackson and Drake Powell, had the opportunity to sit down with Duke commits Cooper Flagg and Isaiah Evans, as we got to witness some first-hand smack talk between the future rivals.
In case you didn’t get the opportunity to watch it, we promise you that it is worth the five minutes and 27 seconds!
Five-star Ian Jackson isn’t shy by any means, as his confidence in the UNC basketball program is very evident. Both Jackson and Powell are very well-aware of North Carolina’s history, as they took jabs at the Duke commits about their future team ending Coach K’s career while also mentioning Cormac Ryan’s stellar performance in the regular season finale in Durham.
Of course, Flagg and Evans had plenty to say on their end, as the duo vowed that losing to North Carolina at home “wouldn’t happen again.
” Jackson joked that the cameras kept showing Flagg during the loss, as the “sad faces” in the “small gym” of Cameron Indoor Stadium were a continuous joke for the guys who will wear the right shade of blue in the future.
Jackson also cited how North Carolina will have “guys who have experience in the rivalry,” as he predicted that the Tar Heels will once again sweep the Blue Devils. this upcoming season.
Flagg made a mistake in asking if North Carolina fans camp out for weeks ahead of the game to secure tickets, as Jackson and Powell reminded Flagg of just how small Cameron Indoor Stadium is.
From debating which fan base is better to discussing the future of the rivalry, it was fun to see that these players are already locked into their future role within it.
They haven’t even arrived on their respective campuses yet, but they are surely ready for their first taste of the rivalry this upcoming season!
