The 80s hard rock band explain why they’re getting back together to tour with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett.

On Wednesday (4 December), Mötley Crüe held a press conference with 2020 tourmates Def Leppard and Poison, where they discussed how and why they decided to reunite after signing a cessation of touring contract.

As Rolling Stone reports, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee referenced the video the band released last month where they burnt their cessation of touring contract to a crisp, formally announcing their reunion. “You know we like to blow shit up,” he quipped.

“Honestly, I don’t think any of us thought, when we were on the final tour, we would ever get back together,” said bassist Nikki Sixx. However, things changed during the filming of the band’s Netflix biopic The Dirt.

“We started being on the set and we started hanging out again together. I think we sort of realised how much, without even talking about the music, how much we missed each other… We missed being in a band together,” said Sixx.

Mötley Crüe also officially released the tour dates of their upcoming The Stadium Tour for At the Los Angeles press conference, the three bands officially announced their joint headlining tour, named The Stadium Tour. The summer 2020 tour will run for 22 dates, with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts as opener. It begins July 7, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, and ends on 5 September at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott also hinted at the possibility of extending The Stadium Tour. “There’s 22 stadium shows, so it’s pretty much most major territories. And in fairness it seems to be growing and there’s more interest before it’s even gone on sale,” said Elliott. “So it may extend one way or another, even in the next year.”
