Big Fight: Megadeth members in a fight with Metallica band

Battle of the Great Thrash Giants! Megadeth vs. Metallica

Welcome to my metal lair fellow aficionados, of the greatest Thrash Metal band of all time.

It’s time to talk about the famous Megadeth vs. Metallica feud that has brewed many fans to choose one band over the other throughout the years. For those who are unaware the front man of Megadeth Mr. Dave Mustaine was once the former lead guitarist of the band Metallica but, Mustaine was kicked out of the band just before Metallica was going to release their first album Kill Em’ All. The reasons that Mustaine was given the boot is for the sole reason that he was an aggressive drunk and drug addict as James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich say. Mustaine was furious and set to return to California and form a new band to get back a Metallica for what they did.

After Metallica released Kill Em’ All Mustaine was now more furious than ever because they used his material on the album after he explicitly told them not too. Once Megadeth was born many fans and critics around the world said Megadeth was another Metallica, something I believe is false.

If you sit down and listen to both Megadeth and Metallica, you will find that these are two entirely different bands and the only similarity is that they both play Thrash Metal. Mustaine’s mission was always to be better than Metallica and throughout the late 80’s early 90’s did anything to top Metallica.

A very controversial moment of the feud was when Metallica released the song “Enter Sandman” and Megadeth released “Go To Hell” and both songs had this verse “Now I lay me down to sleep Pray the lord my soul to keep If I die before I wake Pray the lord my soul to take.” Many fans attacked both bands some saying that Megadeth stole the material form Metallica and vice versa. Similar situation we saw with Metallica’s “The Four Horseman” and Megadeth’s “Mechanix” from the both bands first albums.

Something that also added fuel to the fire was Megadeth’s album Countdown To Extinction debuting at number two on the US Billboard Charts but, Metallica’s album Metallica debuted at number one which made Mustaine unhappy.

The one chance he had to top his fromer band only landed him at number two. In the early 21st century, Dave Mustaine sat face to face with former Metallica bandmate Lars Ulrich to try to settle their differences. Another aspect was when Metallica was inducted into the hall of fame and all former members were inducted expect Mustaine. I very much think that both parties have settled their differences in recent years due both bands participating in the “Big Four” tour together alongside Anthrax and Slayer. Also Mustaine was invited to join Metallica for the Metallica’s 30th anniversary concert in which Mustaine participated and played alongside his former band. In my opinion both band are great and have contributed so much to the Thrash Metal genre. However, Megadeth will always be my favorite Thrash Metal band of all time.
