Steven Lawless leaves Motherwell, as all parties agree to his departure.
Winger Steven Lawless has left Motherwell after the player and the club reached an agreement.
The 30-year-old Scot returned to Fir Park in January after a spell with Burton Albion in England’s League One, but he struggled to break into the first team under manager Graham Alexander, making only one substitute appearance this season in the cinch Premiership.
A statement on the Motherwell website read: “Steven Lawless has left Motherwell, after the club and the player mutually agreed to terminate his current contract.”

“The 30-year-old returned to the club in January of this year from English League One side Burton Albion, with a contract that runs until the end of the current season.

“We would like to thank Steven for his two stints at Fir Park and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”

Motherwell have had a good start to the season, sitting fourth in the league and losing only two games to Hibs and Hearts.

Alexander’s men drew with Rangers at Ibrox and beat Aberdeen at Fir Park.

Lawless’ path into the first team was obstructed by new signing Kaiyne Woolery, who scored against the reigning champions, and Dutch forward Kevin van Veen, who can operate on the flanks and has impressed since joining from Scunthorpe.
