The “Fifth Beatle” is eyeing a spot to open for Paul McCartney on his Got Back tour, sparking excitement among fans who are dubbing it a potential “reunion for the ages”.
Pete Best, the original drummer for The Beatles, has expressed his desire to join McCartney for his upcoming Manchester gigs.
In a heartfelt birthday message to McCartney, posted on Twitter/X yesterday (Wednesday, June 19), Best extended an invitation to warm up the crowd for his ex-bandmate.
His tweet read: “Happy Belated Birthday. Not far behind you. Reach out if you’d like me to open for you in Manchester. Imagine. Now that would be something.”

Best’s tweet racked up thousands of likes, and now Beatles enthusiasts are clamouring for him to make an appearance during McCartney’s Co-Op Arena shows this December. One fan gushed that it would indeed be a “reunion for the ages”.
Serving as The Beatles’ drummer from 1960 until his controversial replacement by Ringo Starr in 1962, Best’s potential return to the stage with McCartney has stirred up significant buzz.
Fans have been vocal on social media, with one suggesting they perform as “The Bestles”, while another simply stated: “It really would be something.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.
A third fan highlighted the significance of the offer, saying: “I get why you made the offer. It’s an offer to open for Paul, not to join in his band.
I hope it happens.” The offer was met with a mixed response from other X users, with some pointing out that McCartney’s shows don’t even feature an opening act.

Some artists, such as Bruce Springsteen, have opted to start their shows earlier instead of having a warm-up act.
One X user remarked: “Paul doesn’t have any opening acts these days. DJ Chris has that space now.” Another user suggested: “Pete, am not sure that would be something for Paul, if only for his relationship with Ringo.”
While a different user said: “If I were you, Mr. Best, I would live peacefully with this. You have your place in history and continue to be a legend for many fans and rock music enthusiasts.”
