Five-star WR Brandon Inniss commits to Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s Class of 2023 keeps getting stronger, as the Sooners landed five-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss when he announced his commitment on Sunday.
Inniss is ranked the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 9 player nationally in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rating. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native picked Oklahoma over Alabama, Miami, Ohio State and Florida.
The 6-foot, 190-pound wideout is the Sooners’ sixth 2023 commitment and third five-star recruit in the class. Inniss joins five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson and five-star athlete Makai Lemon on the list. Oklahoma’s 2023 class is currently ranked No. 1.
How big is this for Oklahoma?
Jason Kersey, Oklahoma beat writer: It’s massive for a couple of reasons. First, it’s a top-10 national player. Anytime you can get any of those guys, it’s a great day for your program.
Inniss is the third five-star in the class. The only one ranked higher than Inniss is Nelson, who will continue to make OU an attractive place for top-tier offensive talent. This also comes at a good time for the Sooners, who have lost three 2022 blue-chip WR commitments this summer, most recently five-star Luther Burden Jr., just last week.
This should calm the nerves of any fans who might have been concerned.
What other top 2023 recruits could OU land?
Kersey: The possibilities are virtually endless. Oklahoma has significant momentum with this 2023 class, and in recruiting, that can be half the battle.
Right now, all six of the 2023 commits are on the offensive side, so the Sooners will surely want to start adding some elite defensive talent to the class, too.
Two uncommitted 2023 five-stars I’ll be watching are cornerback Javien Toviano of Arlington, Texas, and defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton of Alpharetta, Ga. Both visited OU this summer for the ChampU BBQ and enjoyed their experiences. Overton’s father is a former OU player.
Could 2023 be a historic class for the Sooners?
Ari Wasserman, college football recruiting senior writer: If you look at Ohio State and Alabama — the two teams who played in last year’s national title game — they combined to sign 30 top-100 players in the 2021 cycle. That’s literally 30 percent of the best 100 players going to one of two schools. To be able to compete for a national; title moving forward, signing double-digit top-100 players in a single recruiting class will be viewed as a prerequisite.
