Michigan Wolverines Shine in 2024-25: Football Resilience and Basketball Surge

The Michigan Wolverines have experienced a season of notable achievements and significant changes across their football and basketball programs.

Football Season Highlights

Under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines concluded the 2024 season with an 8–5 record, including a 5–4 mark in Big Ten play. The team secured victories in all their rivalry games and capped the season with a 19–13 win over No. 11 Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Notably, Michigan upset No. 2 Ohio State with a 13–10 victory at Ohio Stadium, marking their fourth consecutive win against the Buckeyes—the longest streak since 1988 to 1991.

Despite these successes, the Wolverines faced challenges, leading to the dismissal of offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell after the regular season. Tight ends coach Steve Casula stepped in as the interim offensive coordinator while the search for a permanent replacement commenced.

Basketball Season Progress

In men’s basketball, the Wolverines, under new head coach Dusty May, have surpassed preseason expectations. As of late January, Michigan holds a 6–1 conference record, demonstrating significant improvement from the previous season. The team’s performance has been characterized by resilience and adaptability, positioning them as strong contenders in the Big Ten.

On the women’s side, freshman Syla Swords has emerged as a standout player. A 2024 McDonald’s All-American, Swords has delivered impressive performances, including a 27-point, 12-rebound game against defending champions South Carolina. Her contributions have been pivotal in leading Michigan to a 10–4 record and a No. 24 national ranking.

Overall, the Wolverines’ athletic programs have showcased resilience and growth, setting a promising foundation for fu

ture seasons.
