Ryan Day Comes Clean With College Football’s ‘Sobering RealityRyan Day Comes Clean With College Football’s ‘Sobering Reality
Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day discussed the pressures surrounding his program, the criticisms against him and how the Buckeyes rebounded after losing to the Michigan Wolverines.
“That’s the sobering reality of this game,” Day said. “That nobody cares about what you go through, and you’ve got to win that final one to finish the mission. That’s it for our guys, and as much as some of these wins have been great wins for us, to me, it’s about winning this final game.”
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit was critical of Ohio State fans in the wake of the program’s loss to Michigan.
“I was critical of some of the things they say to some of the players on social media. Here’s my problem: I talk to (quarterback) Will Howard. I talk to Ryan Day. I hear the pain that they feel, and they can’t say anything—I can. I’ll take the bullets.”
Day added broader context to where the team is now and the healing and growth that have come in Ohio State’s performances in the College Football Playoff.
Since Ohio State’s loss to Michigan, the Buckeyes have had three straight CFP wins against No. 9 seed Tennessee, No. 1 seed Oregon and No. 5 seed Texas.
No. 8 seed Ohio State plays No. 7 seed Notre Dame in the CFP National Championship on Monday, January 20.
