Fabrizio Romano drops significant contract update on Wolves star Matheus Cunha
We are only five days into 2025, but there has been plenty of speculation regarding Wolves.
Fans are hoping to see a very positive transfer window, with the club just one point above the relegation zone at the moment.
Wolves had a very tough start under Gary O’Neil. But Vitor Pereira has come in and got seven points on the board already.
But the new manager needs reinforcements if he is to guide Wolves to safety.
Emmanuel Agbadou should be joining Wolves next week from Reims, but hopefully there will be one or two more incomings before the end of the window.
But there’s also speculation regarding current Wolves players.
Mario Lemina is a target for Al-Shabab, and that particular move is now looking more likely than not.
There’s also been lots of talk about Matheus Cunha, and last night some very positive claims emerged about the Brazilian.
Cunha’s incredible form this season has meant there’s been speculation about his future in recent weeks.
But before he was sacked, O’Neil said that Cunha wouldn’t be sold in January, and Pereira has also spoken about keeping Cunha.
The biggest thing Wanderers could do right now is agree a new contract with Cunha, who has indeed been in talks with Wolves over a new deal.
And this does look like it will now happen very soon.
Fabrizio Romano reported on X late last night: “Wolves have agreed on new deal with Matheus Cunha! Deal verbally in place for Brazilian star to extend the contract with salary improved. Despite interest from several clubs, Cunha’s set to sign as soon as official documents are checked/approved. Almost there.”
Journalist Alex Crook reported on X last night: “Matheus Cunha new long-term contract at #Wolves now virtually agreed. A massive boost for new manager Vitor Pereira.
Ben Jacobs also said: “Matheus Cunha now really close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Wolves. Seen as just a matter of time before he signs. Wolves never planned to sanction a January exit.”
A major boost for Wolves
To get Cunha tied down to a new contract would be a huge boost for everyone associated with the club.
Cunha has been magnificent for Wolves this season and without his contributions, the club would surely be several points worse off and in the relegation zone.
One would imagine Cunha and his team will have negotiated some kind of favourable release clause or agreement which would not prevent big clubs from coming in for him in the summer.
That has to be expected though, given how good a player he is.
Hopefully, Wolves will soon confirm the agreement and the Brazilian can make some more big contributions once he’s back playing again.
