Georgia football suspends Colbie Young indefinitely
Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young has been suspended indefinitely by the team.
Head coach Kirby Smart announced the move on Wednesday morning on the SEC Coaches Teleconference call.
“I got to speak to him this morning,” Smart said. “He’s been suspended indefinitely until this legal matter is resolved. We want to be responsible in decision-making on and off the field.”
Young was arrested early Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of battery and assaulting an unborn child. His bond for the battery charge was $2,500. He was booked at 4:18 a.m. and released at 1:36 p.m.
Young is the seventh Georgia player to be arrested since March and the latest since defensive back Daniel Harris was arrested in mid-September for reckless driving-related charges. He will be the third Georgia player to be suspended this season after Harris missed the Kentucky game and running back Trevor Etienne was suspended for the team’s opener against Clemson, also for driving-related charges.
Fellow wide receiver Rara Thomas was dismissed from the team before the season due to charges of family violence.
Georgia is now down two big-bodied wide receivers from the beginning of the season due to legal issues. An availability report for the team’s game against Mississippi State this Saturday is expected to be released later on Wednesday.
