Dan Campbell makes an unforgivable mistake with Jared Goff that will take a toll on him
Campbell congratulated his Detroit Lions players after 42-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks
Jared Goff made NFL history during Monday Night Football, delivering a flawless performance, but even that wasn’t enough to earn him a game ball from his head coach, Dan Campbell.
In an unforgettable moment, Campbell congratulated his Detroit Lions players after their 42-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks but somehow missed acknowledging the star of the game-his own quarterback.
During the post-game locker room celebration, Campbell handed out three game balls. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, safety Kerby Joseph, and wide receiver Jameson Williams all received praise for their contributions.
Yet, despite Goff‘s perfect 18-for-18 passing performance for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and a 155.8 passer rating, his name wasn’t called. Even more astonishing, Goff caught a touchdown pass himself, adding to his exceptional night.
A Historic Performance But No Game Ball
Goff‘s night was one for the record books. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to complete all 18 of his pass attempts in a single game.
However, his achievement went unnoticed during the game ball handout. It wasn’t until Campbell‘s post-game press conference that the coach realized his blunder.
When asked about Goff‘s perfect completion percentage, Campbell confessed: “I just gave the game ball to somebody else, so I feel awful right now.”
Laughter filled the room as Campbell admitted, “I did not realize he was literally 18-for-18. But I knew he played really well. You could feel it.”
Lions fans quickly took to social media, amused by the oversight. One fan wrote, “Even my franchise QB in Madden doesn’t put up these numbers. Give him the game ball, Lt. Dan.” Another added, “Goff is gonna prank him now.”
Though Goff didn’t receive the locker room recognition he deserved, his monumental performance will be remembered. The former No. 1 draft pick has already earned over $240 million in his career and is set to make $401 million by 2028.
More importantly, Goff has his eyes set on leading the Lions to their first-ever Super Bowl win. If that happens, there’s no doubt Dan Campbell will make sure Goff gets the game ball he rightfully deserves.
