SO SAD: Tyson Helton Announced a Devastating News…
WKU football Head Coach Tyson Helton announced Monday that redshirt sophomore quarterback Caden Veltkamp will start against
Toledo on Saturday.
Helton also said that former starter TJ Finley will be out “probably for several weeks” with a lower leg injury he sustained this past
weekend against MTSU.
“Feel bad for TJ because he was putting together some good games and had done a really good job for us,” Helton said. “Hopefully we
can get him back in a couple weeks or so.”
After Finley went out against the Blue Raiders, Veltkamp stepped in and went 27-30 with 398 yards and six total touchdowns.
“We got to carry that momentum now into this game. One game doesn’t make a season,” Helton said. “He’s going to have to go back
out there and continue to lead this team but no question in my mind he’ll do that. We’re very comfortable with him being the
quarterback.”
WKU Football team travels to Alabama on Saturday to open their season, and one question mark was resolved on Monday morning: the starting quarterback for the Tops.
Head Coach Tyson Helton announced that TJ Finley will get the green light against the Crimson Tide, but he made note that redshirt
sophomore Caden Veltkamp should also see the field as well.
Coach Helton’s explained his thought process behind making the starter decision, saying, “TJ will run out there first, but what I’ve told
both quarterbacks is they both need to be ready to play. We’ll see how the game goes.”
“I felt like in camp, either one of those men were deserving of being the starter. You could flip a coin to be quite honest with you. Yeah,
but somebody has to run out there first, so TJ will run out there first,” Helton said.
