Two of these players could potentially come back as players, although that seems exceedingly unlikely. All three could come back in a coaching capacity.

We have to start with the most controversial one, and that is Brandon Belt. The fact that he is even controversial among Giants fans is hilarious because he was a really good first baseman for the team and was a key part of two World Series championships for the Giants.

He was not signed by any team in free agency and did not play in 2024 which was surprising after he had a good year with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023 in which he hit .254/.369/.490 with 19 home runs and 43 RBI.

With Michael Conforto likely to depart in free agency, it would not be the craziest thing in the world to add Belt as a designated hitter. Yet, that seems very unlikely. At the very least, I would love to see Belt at Spring Training teaching top prospect Bryce Eldridge how to play first base and with Buster now in charge that seems like it could be a possibility.

2. Brandon Crawford

While Brandon Crawford’s time with the Giants did not end without controversy, the guy who did not bring him back, Farhan Zaidi, is now gone. The decision to not bring Crawford back was a wise one as he struggled mightily with the St. Louis Cardinals and was eventually released.

It would not make sense to bring him back as a player but maybe he could come back in a coaching role or as a roving instructor if he wants to remain involved in the game. It would certainly help having one of the best fielders of his generation helping out young Giants infielders.

Hunter Pence has always seemed destined to be a coach. From his fiery speeches during the 2012 playoffs to his infectious energy and hustle, it is clear he would be an incredibly fun manager for guys to play for.
