Brisbane Roar announce departure of history-making academy graduate
Brisbane Roar have farewelled star Kai Trewin following the conclusion of his contract with the Isuzu UTE A-League club.
Trewin departs the Roar, having become the first player to progress through Brisbane’s Academy program and reach 100 A-Leagues appearances for the club in March.
The 22-year-old defender, who will represent the A-League All Stars Men side against Premier League giants Newcastle United in Melbourne on May 24, leaves after 116 appearances.
“To Brisbane Roar, I would like to say thank you for the opportunity I have been given to play for this club and the platform that you have given me to start and continue on with my career,” said Trewin, who debuted for Brisbane in 2020.
“To the fans, I would like to say thank you for the past five years, the passion and support you showed myself and my teammates has been unbelievable.
“I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity to fight for you on the pitch every week and I have loved every moment.”
Trewin scored one goal in 26 matches as the Roar finished ninth in 2023-24, nine points adrift of the top six.
“Everyone at Brisbane thanks Kai for his contribution at the club and wishes him all the best for the future,” the statement read.
