SO SAD: Charles Huff Announced a Devastating News…

Marshall is now 5-6 overall but got off to a great start this season and was regarded one of the top teams in the Sun Belt. In fact, the Thundering Herd had high hopes after earning a Power Five win, a 24-17 victory over Virginia Tech.

That led some to wonder if Marshall head coach Charles Huff could be a candidate for Power Five schools. He was 16-10 entering this season, and the Thundering Herd seem to be only getting better under Huff’s leadership.

Here’s a look at some of the Power Five schools Huff could end up at after the 2023 season.

Michigan State
Michigan State announced it fired head coach Mel Tucker for cause. The Spartans could go any number of directions with this hire, including internally.

Many believe Huff could be a top candidate for MSU. He was a running backs coach at Penn State previously, so he has familiarity with the Big Ten. And he’s certainly proven he can lead a team to success.

Boston College
Jeff Hafley’s win percentage has gotten worse every year he’s been at Boston College. The Eagles went 3-9 last year, though they are 6-5 this season.

If Boston College decides to go in a different direction, Huff would be a good fit.

Syracuse
Dino Babers has been fired at Syracuse. He was the Orange’s head coach since 2016, but he had led them to just two winning seasons since then. They were also 1-1 in bowl games with Babers as their head coach.

Though Babers had seen some success and had been at Syracuse for awhile, many had wondered how much longer he would be there. With him gone, Huff would be a good candidate at Syracuse.

Iowa State
Matt Campbell was once a popular candidate to become a head coach at a bigger school or even for an NFL team. He may want to move on soon, especially since the Cyclones’ win percentage has gone down every year since 2020. Iowa State is also 2-3 in bowl games since he became the head coach in 2016. The Cyclones are 6-5 this season.

If the Cyclones are in need of a new head coach going into the 2024 season, some high-profile coaches would probably be interested. Huff should be a name to consider.

Virginia Tech
Brent Pry is in just his second year at Virginia Tech. But the Hokies are 5-6 this year, including a loss to Marshall, after going 3-8 last year.

If Virginia Tech needs a new head coach, Huff would be a good fit. He’s proven he’s a great recruiter and would be capable of bringing in talented players.

Duke
Some have speculated that Duke head coach Mike Elko would be high on the list to replace Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. If that did happen, Huff would be a great candidate to take over at Duke.

Elko has only been the Blue Devils’ head coach for two years, but they went 9-4 last year after a victory in the Military Bowl and are 6-5 in 2023. The football program is in a good spot, which might make the job appealing for a coach like Huff.
