San Diego Padres display ‘PS’ patch on players’ jerseys. What does it mean?
The National League Division Series between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers is tied after four games of play, with a winner-take-all game scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET, Friday in Los Angeles. The winner will advance to the National League Championship Series to take on the New York Mets.
If you’ve been watching the NLDS, you may have noticed the yellow heart patch with the black “PS” lettering on the Padres’ jerseys during those first four games. The team started wearing the patch at the start of the season.
The patch honors the team’s owner, Peter Seidler, who died in 2023 at the age of 63 after battling an illness. Seidler believed that the San Diego franchise would be able to spend and compete with the best teams in baseball.

The Padres finished with a 93-69 record and were second in the National League West standings behind the Dodgers in 2024.

Seidler purchased a controlling stake in the team in 2020. He is the grandson of Walter O’Malley, who was responsible for moving the Dodgers to Los Angeles in 1958 after 68 seasons in Brooklyn.
