Breaking News: Former Husker resigns with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

A former Husker legend has signed a one-year contract for the 2025 NFL season. Linebacker Lavonte David will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 14th season.

David spent the previous 13 years with the Bucs. In 198 games, he recorded 1,602 tackles, 39.0 sacks, and 169 tackles for loss. Last season, he appeared in all 17 regular-season games and had 122 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 9.0 tackles for loss.

The former Cornhusker holds four franchise records in Tampa Bay. Those records are most tackles for a loss in a career (167 tfl – 2012 to present), most assisted tackles in a season (62 tackles – 2015), most tackles for a loss in a season (21.0 tfl – 2013), and most fumble recoveries in a season (5 sacks – 2017).

David played at Nebraska for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He was named a two-time All-American in those two seasons before he was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft.
