News Update: Have the Wisconsin Badgers football team solved the QB issue with Billy Edwards Jr and Danny O’Neil?

The Wisconsin Badgers have actively addressed their quarterback situation by securing commitments from two promising transfers: Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil. Both players joined the Badgers on December 16, 2024, aiming to bolster the team’s offensive capabilities.

Billy Edwards Jr., standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds, began his collegiate career at Wake Forest before transferring to Maryland. During the 2023 season with the Terrapins, Edwards showcased his dual-threat abilities by accounting for 20 touchdowns, demonstrating both his passing precision and athleticism. His performance garnered attention, leading to interest from programs like Michigan and Missouri before he ultimately chose Wisconsin.

Danny O’Neil, a 6-foot, 195-pound quarterback from Indianapolis, made history at San Diego State as the first true freshman starting quarterback in the program’s Division I era. In the 2024 season, O’Neil completed 63.3% of his passes, amassing 2,181 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also contributed on the ground with 93 rushing yards and a touchdown. Despite the Aztecs’ 3-9 record, O’Neil’s individual performance highlighted his potential and resilience.

The addition of these quarterbacks signifies Wisconsin’s commitment to enhancing their offensive strategy. Edwards brings experience and a proven track record in the Big Ten, while O’Neil offers youthful energy and a strong arm. Their contrasting styles provide the Badgers with versatile options under center.

As spring practices approach, the competition between Edwards and O’Neil is expected to be a focal point. Head coach Luke Fickell has expressed optimism about the depth and talent in the quarterback room, believing it will foster a competitive environment that elevates the team’s overall performance. While it’s premature to declare the quarterback issue fully resolved, the Badgers’ proactive approach in acquiring both Edwards and O’Neil indicates a strategic move toward stability and success in the upcoming

season.
