News Update: New York Jets make quarterback decision over Aaron Rodgers replacement for 2025 NFL season with rogue pick

The New York Jets are actively seeking to revitalize their quarterback position following the departure of veteran Aaron Rodgers. Two prominent names emerging in their search are Ole Miss standout Jaxson Dart and free agent Justin Fields.

Jaxson Dart, a 21-year-old quarterback from Ole Miss, has been turning heads with his recent performances. Over his four-year college career, Dart amassed 81 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns. Initially ranked as the 40th overall prospect by ESPN, his impressive workouts have propelled him into discussions as a potential top-seven pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Teams like the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly considering him. Analysts suggest Dart could be the second quarterback selected, following Miami’s Cam Ward.

Concurrently, the Jets are exploring the possibility of signing Justin Fields, who is entering free agency. Fields, known for his dual-threat capabilities, has shown potential during his tenure with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers. His familiarity with Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, stemming from their time at Ohio State, could enhance team chemistry. Reuniting Fields with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, a potential new Jets head coach, might also benefit the team.

The Jets’ strategy reflects a commitment to securing a dynamic quarterback to lead the franchise into a new era. Whether through the draft with a prospect like Dart or free agency with a player like Fields, the organization is exploring all avenues to bolster their quarterback position.
