BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Officials confirmed former LSU football standout Kyren Lacy has been released after posting bail on charges related to a deadly hit and run crash.
Lacy was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex early Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2025, on the charges of hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death, reckless operation with accident, and negligent homicide, records show.
Bond was set at $151,000 total for all three charges, records show.
Lafourche Parish Public Information Officer Captain Brennan Matherne says Lacy turned himself in at 6:34 p.m. Sunday. He was released at 8:11 p.m. after posting bail in the amount of $151,000, added Matherne.
Lacy was on a trip out of state when his arrest warrant was issued, investigators said.
According to Louisiana State Police, the charges stem from a traffic crash on December 17, 2024, that killed a former Marine and injured two others.
Prior to his arrest, Louisiana State Police said they were “in communication with Lacy and his legal representation to turn himself in.”
After allegedly causing the crash, investigators allege Lacy sped from the scene and did not report his involvement to police.
Lacy, 24, a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana was also wanted on a charge of reckless operation of a vehicle, documents show.
Louisiana State Police allege Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger south on LA Highway 20 and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No-Passing Zone.”
The former LSU wide receiver declared for the NFL Draft just two days after the crash.
A Louisiana State Police document contains the following allegations about the incident: As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge. Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the on coming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento. Following the crash, Lacy drove around the crash scene and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash.
A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was critically injured in the 10 a.m. crash and transported to a hospital where he later died, investigators said. Hall, age 78, was a former Marine.
Louisiana State Police said LSP detectives and troopers were able to determine that Lacy was driving the Dodge Charger at the time.
In LSU’s most recent season, Lacy led the Tigers in receiving touchdowns (9) and was second on the team in catches (58) and receiving yards (866). During his five-year collegiate career at the University of Louisiana and LSU, he caught 162 passes for 2,360 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.
