CLEVELAND (WJW) — Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson has been selected to lead one of the four teams in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
The Cavaliers (36-7, .837) clinched the best record in the Eastern Conference through games played on Sunday, Feb. 2, after the Boston Celtics fell 117-96 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. With the milestone, Atkinson secured his first-ever All-Star coaching opportunity.
Additionally, an assistant coach from Atkinson’s staff will serve as the head coach for another team in the revamped All-Star format.
Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault and an assistant from his staff will fill the other two head coaching slots. The Thunder previously locked in the best record in the Western Conference through Feb. 2.
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game introduces a new format featuring a mini-tournament with four teams competing in three games. Three of the teams will consist of NBA All-Star selections, while the fourth team will feature the champion of the Castrol Rising Stars competition, held on Friday, Feb. 14.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16, at Chase Center in San Francisco. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
