Former Texas TE Amari Niblack commits to Texas A&M

The Florida product is one of three tight ends the Aggies have added from the portal during the winter window.

Former Texas Longhorns tight end Amari Niblack is headed back to College Station — after five snaps against the Texas A&M Aggies in late November, the two-time transfer committed to Mike Elko’s program on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Niblack has one season of eligibility remaining after spending two seasons at Alabama and one season at Texas, during which he caught five passes for 33 yards.

Niblack originally committed to the Crimson Tide in the summer of 2021 after picking up his offer from Alabama at a camp, finishing his recruitment with 15 other offers, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and LSU, among others. Ranked as a consensus four-star prospect, Niblack was the No. 146 player and No. 5 athlete nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

After enrolling in Tuscaloosa during the summer, Niblack appeared in 10 games, starting one for Alabama in 2022, recording one catch for 15 yards. As a sophomore, Niblack’s athleticism started to impact games as a part-time starter with 20 receptions for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Perhaps his most impressive touchdown came against Texas, a 39-yard reception on which he broke three tackles.

But Niblack wasn’t able to live up to the expectations created by that reception and his overall production as a sophomore after arriving in Austin from the NCAA transfer portal.

Now the former consensus four-star prospect will compete with two other tight ends from the portal for playing time under offensive coordinator Collin Klein.
