Saddest News: Baylor Bears three best players undergoes a career ending-injury

Whit Weeks undergoes surgery, reportedly expected to make full recovery

Whit Weeks was a key member of the LSU defense in 2024. The sophomore linebacker led the team in tackles with 120 and also added 3.5 sacks, 4 pass deflections, 1 interception, and 2 forced fumbles.

In the Texas Bowl, Weeks and the Tigers were taking on the Baylor Bears. In the 2nd quarter, Weeks suffered a gruesome leg injury that immediately seemed serious. On Thursday, it was reported by The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander that Weeks underwent surgery to repair a broken fibula. The LB did not suffer any ligament damage and is expected to make a full recovery, per the report.

Without Weeks, the Tigers went on to beat the Bears by a score of 44-31. Before the injury, Weeks racked up 6 tackles.

The Texas Bowl victory was a nice way for the Tigers to end the season on a positive note. The team at one time had College Football Playoff hopes, but 3 straight late-season losses dashed those hopes. Instead, the Tigers settled for a Texas Bowl appearance and now have their 3rd bowl win under Brian Kelly.

Weeks’ breakout season helped the Tigers go from No. 108 in total defense in 2023 to No. 61 in the category in 2024. The team’s run defense was No. 51 in the nation after finishing at No. 87 in the category last season.

Now, the Tigers can look forward to Weeks leading the defense again in 2025. The Tigers have been active in the transfer portal, especially on defense, adding Patrick Payton, Jack Pyburn, and Ja’Keem Jackson.
