Michigan QB Davis Warren exits ReliaQuest Bowl game in 3rd quarter due to injury

Michigan quarterback Davis Warren was forced to leave Tuesday’s ReliaQuest Bowl game early on a day that started out so well for the senior signal-caller and the Wolverines.

But Warren was seen limping on his way to the locker room during the 3rd quarter of the game in Tampa, with Michigan holding onto a 16-10 lead over Alabama that was once a 16-0 cushion after the first quarter. Alex Orji took over for Warren after the injury that will likely keep him out for the rest of the afternoon. The Wolverines have since made it a 19-10 game.

Warren limped off the field after taking a sack for a 13-yard loss. The Alabama sideline was flagged for interference on the play, giving the Wolverines a first down. But Michigan’s gain on the play was also its loss, as Warren was forced from the game.

Warren was 9-of-12 passing for 73 yards and a touchdown before his day apparently ended early. Warren helped Michigan grab that 16-0 stranglehold, at least at the time, in the first quarter. He found Fredrick Moore on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 4:15 left in the first that gave the Wolverines a 13-0 lead over the mistake-prone Crimson Tide, who committed 3 turnovers in that first quarter alone, all by counterpart Jalen Milroe.

But Michigan got stagnant after that, and then Warren’s day took a turn for the worse on that 3rd-quarter play.

“I think he’s gonna be done,” said Jason Avant on Michigan radio. “They switched the helmets out. He ran on the sideline and then shook his head like, ‘no,’ so I don’t think we’re gonna see him.”
