Saddest News: Tennessee QB Gaston Moore entering transfer portal

Tennessee QB Gaston Moore entering transfer portal

The Tennessee Volunteers’ primary backup quarterback this season is heading out of town.

Per On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos, Gaston Moore is entering the transfer portal.

Moore leaving isn’t a particularly shocking move. Absent an injury or blowout, he’ll spend his last year of eligibility on the bench. The Vols also added 2025 signee George MacInytre to the quarterback room for next season.

However, it’s still a move that’s noteworthy, as Moore was very experienced running Josh Heupel’s offense in a room that’s largely green behind Nico Iamaleava. Moore came to Tennessee after spending a redshirt season with Josh Heupel at UCF in 2020. He appeared in 14 games over his 4 years in Knoxville, completing 26 of 44 attempts for 273 yards with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

His most memorable moments this season came against Alabama and Mississippi State. Against the Crimson Tide, he came in to spell Nico for one play after the latter left the game briefly. The result? A deep ball that was intercepted by the Crimson Tide. He also played the entire second half of Tennessee’s win over Mississippi State after Nico left with injury, finishing 5/8 passing for 38 yards.

Best of luck to Gaston in his final year wherever he ends up.
