As of December 28, 2024, there are no credible reports indicating that Mario Cristobal is set to leave his position as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes football team. Cristobal, who signed a 10-year, $80 million contract with Miami in December 2021, remains committed to leading the Hurricanes.
In the 2024 season, the Hurricanes have shown significant improvement under Cristobal’s leadership. Notably, they achieved a 7-0 record, earning a No. 6 national ranking, with quarterback Cam Ward emerging as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
While Cristobal faced criticism in October 2023 for a clock management error during a game against Georgia Tech, resulting in a 23-20 loss, the team’s subsequent performance has demonstrated resilience and growth.
Given the lack of recent developments or credible sources suggesting Cristobal’s departure, it appears he will continue to serve as the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

Surprise QB Could Knock Shedeur Sanders Out of No. 1 NFL Draft Spot
There aren’t many universal opinions anywhere in college football, though the notion that Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes and Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes are the only two quarterbacks worthy of the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft is about as close as it gets. It is even more likely that Sanders, projected by most analysts as the top selection next April, comes off the board first considering the New York Giants currently own that pick and are in desperate need of a franchise QB after punting on former first-rounder Daniel Jones earlier this season. However, neither Sanders or Ward would have been the first quarterback selected in last year’s draft. In fact, both may have fallen outside of the top 10 — or even outside of the first round — considering how strong the 2024 QB class was compared to this one. The reality that Sanders doesn’t project as a sure thing at the next level argues against spending the value of the top selection on drafting him.
“Giants fans should familiarize themselves with some of the mid-round options in the draft in case the organization opts to address another need on Day 1,” Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department wrote on Dec. 23. “[Cade] Klubnik [of the Clemson Tigers] currently has a second-round grade from B/R’s scouting department and could gain some interest during the pre-draft process.”
If New York opts to target Klubnik, the team could instead either pick Travis Hunter first overall — who is probably the most talented player available across all positions — and pair him with wide receiver Malik Nabers as a dynamic duo for Klubnik. The Giants’ other option would be to trade down a few spots from No. 1 for a massive haul and then use one of those picks to pursue a QB they like further down the line at a better value. Should New York go the latter route, the team trading into the No. 1 spot would probably do so with its sights set on a quarterback, which might mean Sanders would remain the top pick. However, there is no telling which franchise would make the best offer, and that could result in drama if it’s an organization that Sanders isn’t interested in joining.
