What’s his deal?

If there ever was a player that could keep up the freshman dominance that wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has begun, it’s Devin Sanchez.

The best cornerback in the nation, Sanchez has everything you could want for in a high-level cornerback. He’s got great length, athleticism and ball skills. He plays at North Shore High School in Houston, which is one of the best programs in one of the most talent-rich states in the country.

He comes from an athletic family: Both of his parents were college athletes, and his brother was a college football player as well. It’s been ingrained in him since he was little. While his parents never forced him to football, that’s what he was dominant at.

Sanchez is the type of player you build a class around, on offense or defense, and he should have fans incredibly excited about what he can bring to Ohio State.

His outlook at Ohio State

Sanchez might be able to start right away in Columbus.

With Jordan Hancock and Denzel Burke set to leave after this season, there will be two cornerback slots open. Conventional wisdom would say that Davison Igbinosun, Jermaine Mathews Jr., Calvin Simpson-Hunt and Aaron Scott could contend for those three spots. All will have been in the program for at least a year, and all were highly rated recruits.

Sanchez is not conventional.

This is a player that might be a starter from the time he shows up in Columbus, and fans should expect him to be at least a contributor for three seasons. The outlook on his career may only have him at Ohio State for three seasons before he enters the NFL Draft as a high draft choice.
