Texas football recruiting: Five-star WR Kaliq Lockett commits, inching Longhorns 2025 class closer to top 10

Texas picked up its first five-star commitment in the 2025 recruiting cycle Wednesday when in-state receiver Kaliq Lockett announced his commitment to the Longhorns on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Lockett also considered Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Texas A&M.

The Sachse, Texas native is considered the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 2 receiver in the Top247 rankings. Lockett, who also stars in track for Sachse High School, exploded as a junior by making 59 catches for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Lockett is Texas’ 17th commitment of the 2025 recruiting cycle and first from a receiver. His commitment bumps the Longhorns from No. 13 to No. 12 in the 247Sports Team Rankings. Lockett is the No. 5 ranked player from Texas and the 12th in-state commitment of the Longhorns’ class.
