Ohio State football team loses a quarterback to the transfer portal
The Ohio State football team is preparing for their first-round matchup against Tennessee. For most of the team, that is the focus for the next two weeks. There are some players who have to navigate that, along with the opening of the transfer portal on Monday.
Ohio State has already lost a few players to the transfer portal. They’ve lost a couple of receivers as well as a linebacker. The Ohio State Buckeyes have to figure out how to navigate that along with preparing for taking on the Volunteers at night in a couple of weeks.
Another player has now decided to enter the portal. Quite frankly, it was surprising that this player hadn’t decided to transfer sooner. That is quarterback Devin Brown. Brown had decided to return last season after there was speculation that he could enter the portal.
The Ohio State football team will lose Devin Brown to the transfer portal
This makes a lot of sense for Brown to do. He is not part of Ohio State’s long-term plans, and he wasn’t going to start next year either. It’s likely going to be a three-way battle between Air Noland, Julian Sayin, and Tavien St. Clair. Brown was never going to be a part of that.
Brown will likely end up at a lower-level Power 4 school if he’s lucky. There will probably be a better chance that he ends up at a Sun Belt or MAC school. That would give him the best chance to start. Next season could be his last season of eligibility if he wants, so he needs to make it count.
We wish Brown nothing but the best moving forward. This does put Ohio State in a bit of a bind, though. If Will Howard gets hurt, Ohio State has to figure out who is going to be the backup. No one else has experience.
