Alabama Projected to Flip Elite WR Recruit From SEC Rival
The Alabama Crimson Tide have one of the most talented receiver rooms in college football, and first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer is working to ensure it stays that way.
Despite having the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports, if there was one position that the Tide could use a boost at, it’d be wide receiver. After losing five-star Caleb Cunningham to Ole Miss, the Crimson Tide hold just one receiver commit in the class in three-star Lotzeir Brooks.
However, a couple of recent recruiting developments around the country may have worked in the Tide’s favor in a big way. Not only did LSU lose the No. 1 overall recruit, five-star Bryce Underwood, to Michigan, but they also are expected to lose one of the best receivers in the country in four-star Derek Meadows.
While Underwood leaving just means Alabama won’t have to deal with him in the regular season, Meadows eyeing a new landing spot gives the Tide a chance to bolster their class and receiver room. Something that On3’s recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong projected will happen on Monday.
Wiltfong logged an expert prediction with 60% confidence that Meadows will be flipping his commitment from LSU to Alabama.
Landing Meadows would be big, figuratively and literally, as the Bishop Gorman (NV) product stands in at a whopping 6-foot-5. On top of being massive, he also has elite speed and was even named Nevada’s 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year.
This past season for the Gaels, Meadows racked up 24 catches for 598 yards and seven touchdowns en route to the program’s fourth-straight state title.
Early signing day is set to open on Dec. 4.
