Quitman’s Dear signs with Alabama

Quitman 4-Star Running Back, Akylin Dear, signed with the University of Alabama on National Signing Day.

“Man, my heart’s beating real fast. It’s a dream come true, to make my Pa happy, my family happy, my mom especially, and the people above that are watching down here. It’s a dream come true, man. All the glory to God for everything that’s happening right now,” Dear said.

Dear credits the relationship he has with Alabama Running Backs Coach, Robert Gillespie, as one of the biggest reasons why he signed with the Crimson Tide.

“Coach Gillespie, man, that man is amazing. You know, him and me are from the same area, in Mississippi. We connected real fast and really good,” Dear said.

Kalen Deboer’s success in his first year with Alabama and their relationship is a big reason why Dear chose the Tide as well.

“His honesty, the trust he shows… everything… he’s a great dude, a great guy, a great coach. I’m ready to be up under him,” Dear added.

When asked what kind of player Alabama is getting in Akylin Dear, Quitman’s Head Football Coach, Josh Pulphus, said, “Alabama’s getting one of the most interesting players in the state. [He’s} a young man that has great vision, a young man is a student of the game, and a young man that loves to play the game. I look forward to seeing him on Saturdays. Alabama just doesn’t know they’re getting one of the better players in the state.”

Dear is an Early Enrollee, so he will be on campus in the Spring Semester.
