Deal Confirmed: Red Sox have made a contract offer to $700 million superstar free agent

Red Sox have made a contract offer to $700 million superstar free agent

The Boston Red Sox are looking to improve their roster for the 2025 season and beyond, and to do so, they’re in hot pursuit of superstar outfielder Juan Soto in free agency.

Boston reportedly had chairman Tom Werner, president/CEO Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and manager Alex Cora fly out for a meeting with Soto and his representation earlier in the month for introductions.

Now, it appears that things are heating up, as NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller reported that the Red Sox are one of five teams to offer Soto a contract already. Miller also listed the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays as teams who presented offers to Soto’s agent Scott Boras last week. The report was confirmed by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

It’s unclear exactly what any of these offers are, but it’s believed that Soto is looking for a deal nearing what Shohei Ohtani received from the Dodgers last offseason ($700 million).

From here, the five teams will negotiate with Soto and his representation, and whoever presents the most appealing offer will sign one of the best players in today’s game.

In 2024, Soto played in 157 games for the Yankees, hitting .288 with a .989 OPS, 41 home runs, 109 RBIs and seven stolen bases. He also earned All-Star honors for the fourth time in the 26-year-old’s career.
