Los Angeles Dodgers reached an agreement with Mexican pitcher Giovanny Gallegos to attend Spring Training with a Minor League contract and the possibility of seeking an opportunity to move up to the roster for next season.

According to a report from MLB Trade Rumors, the veteran reliever could return to Major League Baseball, after playing with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2019 to 2022, during which time he had a 2.84 ERA and a 32% strikeout rate.

After signing an extension in 2023, his ERA slumped to 4.42, before falling to 6.53, which led to his release on August 2.

The right-hander signed a Minor League contract with the Minnesota Twins four days later, but did not return to the Major Leagues, and according to MLB Trade Rumors, he is now focused on correcting his pitching mechanics and has already regained velocity on his fastball.

What is Giovanny Gallegos’ contract like?
Gallegos would earn $2.5 million for remaining on the roster, but with the possibility of reaching another $1.5 million in incentives.

Although the team has not disclosed the deal with Gallegos, the good news for the Sonoran is that the Dodgers have a good knack for straightening out careers and if their strategy works, it could be a good bet to boost their bullpen for next season.

The Dodgers are among the teams vying to sign Dominican baseball player Juan Soto, but their priority for next season is to strengthen their starting rotation and bullpen, to consolidate a dynasty led by their stars Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

They will go to the winter market to look for the best available in free agency: Corbin Burnes, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Jack Flaherty, Klayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, among their options.
