BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Members of the LSU football community are mourning the loss of a longtime staff member.
The university confirmed Charles Baglio passed away on Friday night, October 18.
According to Louisiana State Police, Baglio was struck by a vehicle following a crash in Tangipahoa Parish. Officials say Baglio was involved in an initial crash with another vehicle along US Hwy 51 at Kohnke Hill Road.
Following the crash, Baglio exited his vehicle to check on the other driver. After leaving the shoulder on foot and re-entering the roadway, Baglio was walking back to his vehicle when he was struck by a separate vehicle traveling southbound on US Hwy 51.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. LSP is investigating.
Baglio spent 20 years with LSU as the football director of external relations, serving in the role during three national championships, four SEC titles, and for three football head coaches.
Before joining the LSU football staff, Baglio also had a 34-year career as a coach at Independence High School. During that time, he was head coach for more than 20 years.
According to LSU, Baglio is one of the top 50th winningest coaches in Louisiana high school football history. He scored 205 victories and was also inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame in 2001.
