Vanessa’s eyebrows furrowed, and Charley felt a wave of anxiety wash over her. “You think I’m being harsh? This is a high-pressure environment. We all need to toughen up.”
“I understand that,” Charley replied, her voice firm but calm. “But being tough doesn’t mean being impolite. Constructive feedback is crucial, but it can be delivered without belittling someone.”
A tense silence hung in the air. Vanessa’s expression hardened, but Charley pressed on. “I’ve seen team members become disengaged, and I worry it’s because they feel undervalued. We can achieve our goals without sacrificing respect.”
Vanessa leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. “I appreciate your perspective, but you’re not in my shoes. You don’t see the pressures I’m under.”
