Texas A&M Aggies coach Mike Elko announces a devastating news

Here is everything Texas A&M HC Mike Elko said following the 33-20 win over Florida

What a game! Texas A&M (2-1, 1-0 SEC) earned its first SEC win of the 2024 season and the first conference road win since the 2021 season, which also marked redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed’s first career start.

Just minutes before kickoff, it was announced that starting quarterback Conner Weigman would miss the game due to an AC joint (shoulder) injury reportedly sustained during A&M’s opening season loss to Notre Dame. Knowing that Marcel Reed earned the backup spot after starting the entire second half in the 52-10 win over McNeese State, Elko, and OC Collin Klein were completely confident in his ability to control the offense.

Credit to ESPN CFB analyst Kirk Herbstreit for praising Reed’s ability during College GameDay, as the freshman signal caller was outstanding in the pocket from start to finish. With a running game that racked up 310 rushing yards for consecutive 300-plus yard rushing performances, Reed completed 11/17 for 178 yards and two touchdowns through the air, paired with 83 yards and a score on the ground.

Dominating the line of scrimmage with 37 minutes of possession and 27 first downs, Reed might be too good to keep off the field moving forward, especially given Weigman’s injury status.

After the game, head coach Mike Elko spoke to the media after the win.
