Sad News For Birmingham City: He Might Not Return Again…

Chris Davies has suggested Dion Sanderson and Keshi Anderson have a chance of being available for Birmingham City’s clash with Wrexham after the international break.

Blues play fellow unbeaten side Wrexham a week on Monday in one of League One’s most exciting fixtures on paper. Davies will be boosted by the returns of his international contingent, but four players have been ruled out and Sanderson and Anderson remain doubts.

Asked whether any of the injuries will clear up during the international break, Davies said: “For the Wrexham game, possibly.

It’s a moving object, we will have to see how it goes in the next week or so for their rehab but it will be touch and go for the ones that are out at the moment.”

Blues will be without Ethan Laird and Luke Harris after the pair suffered ankle injuries in the win over Wigan Athletic last weekend.

Giving an update on Laird and Harris earlier this week, Davies said: “Ethan has a knock to his ankle, the same as Luke Harris, so they both look like they are going to be out for a little while now. We had those results back (on Monday).

“They will both miss a bit of time but we have a squad to deal with that. I think it will be into the months, I would say. I can’t be definitive on it yet because we need to see how both settle, but I think it’ll be over a month for them both.”

Keshi Anderson
Injury: Unspecified

Anderson has made a strong start to the season but he pulled up in Blues’ defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup last week. Davies has suggested Anderson could be out for ‘a few weeks’.

“I’ve not had an update from the physio but he pulled up with something just before he was going to come off,” the Blues boss said in the immediate aftermath of Anderson’s injury.

Dion Sanderson
Injury: Unspecified

Sanderson was a surprise omission at Leyton Orient after missing the win at Wycombe due to suspension. Davies revealed afterwards that the centre-back faces a spell on the sidelines.

He said: “It’s a few weeks. We can’t put anything specific on it yet because something’s unknown but it will be a few weeks.”

Ethan Laird
Injury: Ankle

The right-back has been ruled out until next month at the earliest with an ankle injury. The news will come as a bitter blow to Laird, who has come through a full pre-season unscathed to start Blues’ first six matches under Davies.

Laird only made 25 league appearances in his first season at St Andrew’s due to a series of injuries and now faces another spell out.
