Ken Bruce just announce unexpected announcement

Pleased to Meet You… Ken Bruce introduces Greatest Hits Radio 60s

Greatest Hits Radio’s Ken Bruce shared some exciting news with millions of listeners to his show this morning, as he announced news of a brand-new sister station, Greatest Hits Radio 60s.

The first hour of the new station will simulcast with Greatest Hits Radio from 12noon to 1pm on Monday 16th September and joining Ken will be national treasure – and the voice of Greatest Hits Radio 60s – Joanna Lumley.

Joanna is thrilled to be joining the Greatest Hits Radio family saying: ‘I haven’t even said ‘Mind the Gap’ on the Tube so to be a station voice – it’s paradise. I love it! The awful thing is that,  although in life you always feel you are sort of fairly up to date and wear disastrously mutton dressed as lamb clothes and things like this, you realise that the music that stays with you – and that you love – is the music that you have when you were growing up through your teens and early 20s. So, the Sixties is absolutely my period – they were fabulous songs.’

Joining Joanna on the new station – available across the UK on DAB and via the Rayo app – will be broadcasters including Richard Allinson who will be hosting the Breakfast show from 6 – 10 am every Monday to Friday whilst Alex Lester takes over afternoons from 2 – 6pm. Greatest Hits Radio Breakfast presenter, Rossie, gets a lie in at the weekends before hosting an afternoon show on Saturday and Sunday with Andy Crane on weekend mid-mornings.

Other familiar Greatest Hits Radio faces will also be popping up in a variety of special programming. Ken Bruce will still be sharing some of his Secret Sixties tracks and interviewing celebrity guests about their Sixties Golden Years, Paul Gambaccini curates a Sixties jukebox and Simon Mayo hosts documentaries including The Beatles Legacy: Red and Blue Parts I and II.

Andy Ashton, Greatest Hits Radio Content Director said: ‘When Ken first joined Greatest Hits Radio, we gave him his very own station – Secret Sixties. It was an exclusive online station for premium users, and the feedback from the audience was so enthusiastic that we knew we had to do more, and so now Greatest Hits Radio 60s is born. We’re thrilled that Joanna has come on board as the voice of the new station – she completely embodies the style, wit, and passion of the 60s as a decade. Greatest Hits Radio is all about the biggest songs of the 70s, 80s and 90s and so many of those songs and artists have their roots in that incredible Sixties sound that changed things forever, that we know Greatest Hits Radio 60s will be a brilliant addition to the family.’
