Four more years: Commanders sign guard Sam Cosmi to extension
One of the best offensive linemen on the Washington Commanders is sticking around for the long haul. They signed guard Sam Cosmi to a four-year contract extension on Wednesday.
The team didn’t disclose any financial details.
“He is a pillar of our offensive line and we believe that Sam’s best playing days are ahead,” Commanders general manager Adam Peters said. “Sam is a great leader and teammate and we’re excited that he will be a member of our team for years to come.”
Cosmi was drafted as a right tackle in 2021, but struggled in his first two seasons. The University of Texas product flourished last season after shifting to right guard, starting all 17 games and not missing a snap.
“He’s a Commander through and through,” coach Dan Quinn said. “He plays tough, square and strong. He’ll be an anchor inside for years to come.”
Cosmi, 25, and right tackle Andrew Wylie, 30, are the only holdovers on a revamped Washington offensive line that features three new starters.
Cosmi and the Commanders open their season Sunday at Tampa Bay.
