Castleford Tigers set to lose six players – as things stand
Castleford Tigers seem to have found their rhythm in recent weeks. The club have won their last three Super League games, including results over Catalans Dragons and St Helens, doubling their win tally for the season as they bid to build some momentum over the final months of the campaign.
Craig Lingard’s side remain 10th in the table and they’re still nine points shy of the play-off picture. As such, while they still have nine games to play, eyes will be turning to 2025 at Wheldon Road as they push to continue making strides forward. Recruitment is a necessity, but the club will also be looking at retention, with six players currently set to leave the club. Here’s a look at those who are entering the final few months of their contracts with the Tigers.
Jack Broadbent
Broadbent’s exit has already been confirmed with the centre set to join Hull KR on a permanent basis come the end of the season. The former Leeds Rhinos man joined the Robins on an initial loan deal in April and has made eight appearances for the club since under Willie Peters.
Liam Watts
The 34-year-old has been a regular under Lingard and he’s shown that he can still make an impact through the middle, whether that be off the bench or from the start. Castleford Tigers are said to have the option of extending his deal by a further year and it seems a decision will be made one way or another later in the campaign.
Samy Kibula
Kibula has struggled to settle throughout his career with Castleford being his fifth permanent club at the age of just 24. He’s spent a chunk of this season with Batley Bulldogs on dual registration, and while the club do hold the option to extend his contract, it remains to be seen whether they will.
Brad Martin
The forward hasn’t featured for the Tigers since May and it would seem his time at the club is coming to an end. According to Yorkshire Live, he’s signed a deal with Leigh Leopards for next season.
Luis Johnson
Johnson joined the black and amber outfit from Hull KR last year on a one-year deal and has played six games for the club since. He spent some time with Featherstone Rovers earlier this season but he has been involved in the club’s last two, coming off the bench in wins over Catalans and London Broncos.
