Good News for the Dallas Cowboys: He’s back

Zeke Elliott will return to the Cowboys uniform sooner than later, per sources

Cowboys eyeing Texas RB Jonathon Brooks in 2nd Round Draft

The Dallas Cowboys are currently in need of a starting-caliber running back, and it looks like they have their sights set on Texas running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round. However, even if they manage to secure Brooks, the team is not done bolstering the position.

In a recent meeting with veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott‘s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, there is an expectation that Elliott will sign with Dallas. Executive vice president Stephen Jones expressed his admiration for Elliott, acknowledging his contributions to the franchise:

“Zeke, as we all know, is one of our favorites. He’s laid it on the line for this franchise. He’s the ultimate competitor, and we obviously think a lot of him.” This sentiment was echoed by owner Jerry Jones, who emphasized the mutual respect between Elliott and the Cowboys, stating, “He has laid it on the line for the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys have laid it on the line for Zeke.”

Despite a challenging season where Elliott saw a decline in his performance, the Cowboys recognize his value as a team leader and his potential to mentor a rookie starter. In 2021, Elliott experienced career lows in various statistical categories, including carries, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns.

However, his track record with the Cowboys speaks volumes. Over seven seasons with the team, Elliott has amassed an impressive 8,904 rushing yards and 71 touchdowns on 2,065 carries. Additionally, he has been a reliable receiving option, hauling in 305 passes for 2,336 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Looking ahead, the Cowboys are not only eyeing Elliott but have also made moves to strengthen their running back corps. They recently signed veteran Royce Freeman and have a promising group of young talent in Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster at the position.

The potential addition of both Jonathon Brooks and Ezekiel Elliott would provide the Cowboys with a blend of youthful potential and veteran experience in the running back room. With Elliott’s leadership and mentorship alongside a new talent like Brooks, the Cowboys are positioning themselves to have a formidable ground game in the upcoming season.
