Carlos Dunlap discusses his departure from Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals recently traded Carolos Dunlap to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for offensive lineman B.J. Finney and a 2021 7th round draft pick.
Dunlap was wanting to get more playing time but wasn’t getting that chance with the Bengals. So, he made it clear that he wanted to leave Cincinnati after a decade with the organization.
On Wednesday, Dunlap spoke about his departure from Cincinnati and Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk highlighted what he had to say.
“My time clearly was up (in Cincinnati),” Dunlap said on Wednesday ahead of his first practice with Seattle. “The coaches came to that conclusion and we had to do we had to do. That’s part of the business. Guys are dealt throughout the year and, obviously, no longer because the trade deadline’s up, but for me it was just an opportunity to get a fresh start, to go to a team and an organization that wanted me, clearly, by the move that they made.”
In a week 7 matchup with the Cleveland Browns, Dunlap saw just 12 snaps in the game and had a heated disagreement with an assistant coach on the sidelines before taking to Twitter to put his residence up for sale.
After Coronavirus protocols, Dunlap was finally able to practice with his new team and will make his Seahawk debut Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
“I feel like it’s a great fit,” Dunlap said. “I mean these guys fly around. I’ve been an edge defender my whole career. Been left end, been right end, been in the 4-3 style and this is what we’re doing here. I’m being asked to do what I’ve done my best football doing so it’s a win-win situation for me. I don’t know how to explain it in any clear terms, but this is definitely a win-win situation for me.”
Dunlap made it clear that he is excited to play for a current Super Bowl contender in Seattle.
While the Carlos Dunlap era in Cincinnati didn’t end on the best of terms, we should all wish him nothing but the best as he starts the next phase of his career in Seattle.
