Warriors have ‘destiny in own hands’ says coach Webster
The Warriors have enjoyed a two-week break following their heartbreaking 13-12 golden-point loss to the Bulldogs, something head coach Andrew Webster said has fueled the side ahead of their clash with the Raiders on Friday night.
Webster told Breakfast host Jenny-May Clarkson that having a two-week break off the back of a loss always makes you hungrier to win the next one.
“I think there’s so much we can be proud of, such as the resilience we showed,” said Webster. “We had a lot of things go against us injury-wise, but we still had opportunities where we should have won that game.”
Webster said he couldn’t fault his team’s effort in the match where Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, and Marcelo Montoya all left the field due to injury.
“I’m heartbroken for the boys because of the amount of effort that was put into that game, to come away with nothing is hard.
“That’s why the NRL is so tough and that’s why, in my opinion, it’s the greatest competition in the world.”
The Warriors are currently in 12th position on the NRL ladder and are three points outside the top eight with seven matches left, with a bye in the last round of the competition.
“We can’t drop games. Our own destiny is in our own hands.”
Webster, a proud NSW Blues fan, has his eyes fixed on tonight’s massive State of Origin decider in Brisbane.
Queensland host the Blues tonight at Suncorp Stadium for the third and final match of the series, with kick off at 10.05pm.
He has predicted a 24-18 triumph for the Blues in Brisbane, somewhere they have had little success in Origin deciders. The last time they won game three there was in 2005.
