Black Keys drummer says ‘we got f—ed’ after arena tour cancellation and management split
Patrick Carney told fans to “stay tuned” for further details.
One half of the rock duo the Black Keys has a colorful but cryptic message for fans in the wake of the band abruptly canceling a North American arena tour and firing their high-profile management team.
“We got f—ed,” drummer Patrick Carney wrote on social media Monday. Teasing an explanation for the groups recent turmoil, he added, “I’ll let you all know how so it doesn’t happen to you. Stay tuned.”
A representative for the Black Keys reached by Entertainment Weekly declined to comment further.
Last month Carney and bandmate Dan Auerbach quietly and unexpectedly scrapped their International Players Tour, which was set for arenas and amphitheaters across North America, beginning at BOK Center in Tulsa on Sept. 17. The dates were scrubbed from the Black Keys’ social media accounts and website a month after being announced. A post to the band’s Instagram account later confirmed that Carney and Auerbach were “alive and well,” explaining that the arena dates were axed in favor of finding more “intimate” venues.
The duo subsequently cut ties with their managers, Irving Azoff and Steve Moir, whom they had been with since 2021. The New York Times first reported the split, citing a representative for Azoff and Moir who said they “amicably parted” with the band.
EW has reached out to Azoff and Moir for comment.
At present, no new dates have been announced for the downsized version of the Black Keys’ tour. The band’s website only references a one-off performance July 6 at Chicago’s NASCAR Street Race.

In the May 26 Instagram post addressing the arena tour overhaul, the Black Keys wrote, “Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon.”
