Breaking news:Blues tender offer sheet to Broberg and Holloway in Edmonton

  1. St. Louis – Today, DougArmstrong,President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the St. Louis Blues, announced that the Blues have extended offer sheets to forward Dylan Holloway and defender Philip Broberg of the Edmonton Oilers.

Section 10.3 of the NHL collective bargaining agreement gives the Oilers seven days to use their right of first refusal on each player.

Until the Oilers decide whether to accept the equivalent compensation or match the conditions of either offer, the Blues will not be able to say further.

Having been selected in the first round (No. 8 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Broberg, 23, has played 81 games for the Oilers over the last three seasons, recording two goals and 11 assists. The product of Orebro, Sweden, has also participated in 20 NHL playoff games with Edmonton, scoring two goals and providing an assist in 10 of those games as they advanced to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. The maximum offer for Broberg, which would entail a second-round draft pick as payment, is a two-year contract for $4,580,917 annually.

After joining the Oilers in 2022–23 as a former first-round pick (No. 14 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft, Holloway, 22, has played in 89 games for the team. In those two seasons, he registered nine goals and nine assists. The University of Wisconsin alumnus and native of Calgary, Alberta, has participated in 26 postseason games in his career. Of those, 25 were played during Edmonton’s run to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, during which he scored five goals and provided two assists. The maximum offer made to Holloway is a two-year deal worth $2,290,457 per year, which would come with a third-round draft pick as payment.

The Blues have completed a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins to re-acquire their second-round pick in 2025 (acquired via trade) and acquire Pittsburgh’s fifth-round selection in 2026. This is to satisfy the required compensation of the offer sheets should Edmonton choose to decline their right of first refusal. St. Louis’ 2026 second-round selection and Ottawa’s (acquired via trade) 2025 third-round selection are headed to the Penguins.
